Ch 48 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Ch 48 -- Delicious pork cutlet after a long absence

"We're out of the Gryphon territory." said Fer.

"Oh, finally?"

We hadn't seen any Gryphons since that talking Gryphon challenged Fell. I was kinda scared when the Gryphon said they ate people, so I was happy we're out of their territory.

"How much longer will we be in the forest?"

"Not too long. It will be about three more days." Great, we're nearly out of the forest. After that it's the Leonhart Kingdom, I think?

"Hey Fell, once we're out of the forest, will we be in the Leonhart Kingdom?"

"I do not know where that country is. However, when I go east I go through this forest. You wanted to go east? Well it'll be fine." Fer answered.

Huh, it was a mistake to ask Fer.

According to what Fell told me, it seems that the forest here is part of a larger forest area covering the eastern part of the Feenen kingdom. Because we started from the Feenen Kingdom, where we will come out of the forest is probably going to be the Leonhart Kingdom ... We'll ask someone when we get out of the forest. It will be good to meet people again after so long. Maybe.

* * * * *

"Do you want to make camp around here today?" I said to Fer as the sun was going down.

"Good idea. My belly has shrunk." Hey, I'm hungry too you know?

I asked Fer to raise his speed a little since we're nearly out of the forest and I've gotten kinda used to being on his back.

Well, I'd like a cheerful meal so in that case...

Breaded pork cutlet.

It's definitely the right time to eat that, but breaded pork cutlets should always be made of pork. Hmmm, there should be some orc meat left.... When I searched the Item Box, I found some orc meat. OK, let's eat breaded pork cutlet here with Fer, but I have to buy some missing items first.

Well, I've already got salt and pepper, eggs too, oil for deep-frying...... what's missing is, hmm, bread crumbs and wheat flour? Oh, it's important that I buy cabbage and tonkatsu sauce (of course!) and rice is ESSENTIAL!

I bought materials that I had run out of from the Net Super and checked them off the list. Everything's there, yes.

First I started cooking the rice then I shredded the cabbage and soaked it it water. I cut the orc meat into thick slices then hit it with the back of the kitchen knife to tenderise it. After dusting the orc meat lightly with salt and pepper, I dunked it in flour and removed the excess. I coated them with some beaten eggs and then added bread crumbs, then repeated the eggs and breadcrumb coating to make the finished product even crispier. I then deep-fried them until they turned a nice light brown colour in the oil.

Poking them with a kitchen knife made a nice crunchy sound. They're gonna be delicious~ I served them on a dish with shredded cabbage and rice.

"They're ready." I announced. Fell and Sui immediately crowded in.

I added tonkatsu sauce. "Right, here it is. Be careful as it's hot." I warned them but Fer had already sunk his fangs into the food before I could say "hot".

"It's a bit hot, but this is delicious." Fer said.

It seems Sui is OK with hot foods so she ate the pork cutlet in one go.

"Yeah, this is delicious, isn't it?" she agreed.

Well it is a pork cutlet. They both like it so that's good. Time for me to eat too. Mmmm, success! Oh, it tastes delicious after such a long time. Next, the rice. Pork cutlet eaten with rice is the best.

Oh, this makes me want some miso soup. Do I have any? Yes, I had bought instant miso soup earlier. I made some instant miso soup taken from the item box. Pork cutlet, rice, miso soup, pork cutlet, rice, pork cutlet, sometimes cabbage ... it's so delicious.

"Hey, I want seconds." said Fer.

"Sui too"

Yeah yeah. Fer and Sui pestered me until I started frying more and more breaded pork cutlets for them. I thought there was another serving of orc meat left but we used it all up in one go.

Good grief, Fer and Sui are way too greedy.

Ch 47 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Chapter 47 -- Fer vs. Gryphon

"We'll soon be entering Gryphon territory." Fer's words gave me a shock.

We're finally at the Gryphon territory. I don't want to enter it.

"Keep the Barrier up solidly." I beg Fer.

"Yes I know. Don't worry."

I'm going to worry anyway. They're Gryphons after all.

* * * * *

We're well into Gryphon territory now. We haven't seen any trace of Gryphons yet. I wish we could go all the way through the Gryphon territory without seeing them at all.

On the third day a Gryphon appeared at last. A single Gryphon landed in front of us with a great beating of its wings. I was struck speechless. Honestly the sight of it nearly made me wet myself.

Anyway the Gryphon looked like a really big deal. It had the head of an eagle and the body of a lion and it was even bigger than Fer.

Suddenly this giant Gryphon kneeled down and bowed its head.

"Fenrir-sama, please, do this"

"Wh- what, it can talk?" I was surprised because I thought the only monster that could speak human language was Fer. Sui can use Telepathy like Fer because of her Contract with me but she can't talk. But this Gryphon can talk...

"Gryphons can't normally use human languages but this one is special and of high intelligence."

"Oh, that's why."

"This Gryphon and me and the Ancient Dragon can speak human language fluently." Fer explained.
I see.

"As he said, human words, only I" So this Gryphon is the only one that can speak human language.

"Flock leader, to become, trial, I must, fight me, please"

Huh? The Gryphon wants to fight Fer to become the leader of the Gryphons?

"Mighty, Fenrir-sama, fight, everyone, me, accept." So everyone in the flock will accept him as their leader if he fights a Fenrir. The Gryphon's got some guts, hey?

"Very well, I'll be your opponent, but I won't go easy on you." Fer said.

"Understood"

Sui and I got off Fer's back and moved clear. As I got off I whispered "Don't kill him, hey?" in Fer's ear but the only response was a shrug. I can't help but wonder if that Gryphon was going to be OK? If it comes to it we can use some of Sui's Deluxe High-Grade Potion but we've only got one PET bottle's worth. That might not be enough for such a large Gryphon.

"Sui, can you make more High-Grade Potion?"

"Nnnn, easy-"

I got another PET bottle out to make more of Sui's Deluxe High-Grade Potion, just to be safe as Fer and the Gryphon faced off against each other.

"Right, let's go." said Fer.

At Fer's words the Gryphon spread its giant wings and flew up into the sky. From its wings high above countless black things like arrows descended. Fer dodged them like he was dancing. When I looked I saw the "arrows" fired by the Gryphon were feathers. A large volley-ball-sized stone struck by a feather was shattered into tiny pieces.

*Wow, that's amazing...*

It was Fer's turn to fire magic at the Gryphon high above. A small tornado formed around the Gryphon,  spinning it around and around in the wind. The tornado seemed to have a cutting edge -- I think that magic is the most powerful version of Wind Cutter -- and the tornado was coloured red with the Gryphon's blood. The Gryphon's really in a bad way.

"H- hey Fer, that's too much-"

"Hmmmph-"

The tornado collapsed and the Gryphon crashed to the ground. I immediately went to the Gryphon's side and sprinkled it with Sui's Deluxe High-Grade Potion.

"I told you to take it easy on him, didn't I?" I said to Fer. There are limits, you know. That kind of tornado, don't use it just because you want to show off.

"Nnnn..." The Gryphon opened its eyes.

"Hey, are you OK?"

"Aaah..., wounds..."

"I think the cuts are healed up where I sprinkled this potion but does it hurt anywhere?"

"Human, medicine... expensive"

"Don't worry about that. Is everything else OK with you?" The Gryphon's body was covered with blood, even its pure-white wings.

"I'm fine, sorry."

Huu-, it turned out good. It looks like Sui's Deluxe High-Grade Potion worked perfectly. It did take two PET bottles worth to do the trick though.

"Nothing, so easy, to lose, ..." The Gryphon hung its head dejectedly. It seemed the Gryphon didn't expect to match up to Fer but he didn't think he would lose so easily. The Gryphon is a boss-level character, one of this world's greatest Demonic Beasts after all and Fer beat it by magic while it was flying around... Fer's really something special, isn't he?

Oh, hello? I noticed something when I looked at Fer.

"Hey, you did manage something. Look at that." I pointed at the shoulder of Fer's foreleg. Fer's white fur had a slight tinge of blood.

"It's a wound from the Gryphon's first attack. It's not much to inflict on a legendary Demon Beast like a Fenrir but it's a solid hit, isn't it?"

"Nununu, it's annoying even if I say so myself."

The Gryphon raised its head after hearing Fer's words.

"I, I, Fenrir-sama..." The Gryphon made a loud cry and looked up into the sky. Scores of Gryphons were flying towards us.

"Uh, waah...!"

One Gryphon was intimidating enough, scores of them were another matter entirely. Or should I say, totally terrifying.

The Gryphons landed behind the one that Fer had fought with. I couldn't look.

"I, the leader, am recognised"

Is that so? That's good I think.

"Fer-sama, thank you, very much"

Yeah yeah, keep going.

"Human, here, take"

The Gryphon plucked some feathers from its wing and passed them to me. Apparently they were payment for treating his wounds with Sui's potion. Gryphon feathers are valuable, it seemed.

"So, human, you can, pass here, be eaten not"

I'm happy and terrified at the same time. Gryphons eat people but they're not going to eat me.

Hearing that I'm never going to come this way again!

"Can we go now, Fer?"

"Yah, let's go." I put Sui back in my bag and climbed aboard Fer to away from this place quickly. The annoying Gryphon sent a loud cry after us.

Ch 46 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Chapter 46 - My bad, I forgot something.

After dinner Fer reminded me of something.

"By the way, are you remembering to make your offerings and prayers to Ninril-sama?"

"Oh yeah, I completely forgot."

"You'll be cursed big time! Hurry up and do it." Fer growled.

"Yeah yeah." I grumbled.

It's only been a week since the oracle told me to make offerings so I've not actually broken my promise quite yet. I don't want complaints from that poor excuse for a Goddess though so I'll make another offering now.

I look through the Net Super menu while trying to decide what to offer.

The Goddess likes sweet things so I wonder what would be good. What should it be...?

Hmmm, some things from this section might get the goddess to look kindly on me. I start searching the sweets menu but there are many different kinds.

I'll just choose things that catch my eye to start with. First of all there's custard pudding and cheesecake.

Cheesecake -- baked cheesecake or unbaked cheesecake? Both?

Next, I think Swiss Roll, cream puff, Mont Blanc, chocolate cake and strawberry shortcake. After that pudding a la mode and tiramisu as well.

Is that a total of ten pieces? Everything's a Western-style cake but if it's for that Goddess it'll be OK, I expect.

I've never looked in the Sweets Corner before but it seems to have been the right place this time. Right, I have to pay for all this.

A cardboard box appears as usual. I take out the sweets I purchased and line them up on the instant cardboard box altar.

"Wind Goddess Ninril-sama, I'd like to thank you for giving me your protection although I'm a little bit late. Thank you for your continued support." I pray to Ninril-sama while I make the offering.

[Ooh, finally. Really, how long were you going to keep me waiting?] Ninril-sama sounded snippy.

"I'm incredibly sorry, I was distracted by various things here and I forgot, sorta..."

[Stop lying. I can see you from the World of the Gods, you know. You didn't *just* forget.]

Ow, she got me.

"Well, I'm incredibly sorry. I'll take more care next time, please forgive me." I grovelled.

[Hmmm, I'll forgive you this time but don't make such a mistake again. I considered sending you an oracle to remind you many times but there are reasons why I couldn't do it.]

I forgot because she didn't send me an oracle but it seems she can't always do that for some reason.

[It's like this,] Ninril-sama explained. [The Gods and Goddesses watch each other like hawks. If one of us sends too many oracles the others will notice. If I'm not careful then you'll end up having to make offerings to them too. You've got to remain a secret.]

Ah, I muttered to myself quietly, there are other greedy Goddesses too.

"Ninril-sama, as an apology, I have brought together these various offernings today." I prayed with my head bowed. When I looked up again, the items on the cardboard altar had disappeared without a trace.

[Woohoo! This, this is-!!]

What's with the *Woohoo!*? This is a very disappointing Goddess.

[They're all so sweet, and so different? And there's so many of them too!!]

"Yes, Goddess, it's an apology offering as I said earlier. I thought it might be a bit too much..."

[Wh-what are you saying? Too much? No, this is perfect. Next time you should offer the same amount. That's an order.]

Yeah yeah. So ten pieces was OK after all.

"Oh, Ninril-sama, these sweets are all cakes so keep them refrigerated so you can enjoy them tomorrow."

[I got it. However we Gods don't need to refrigerate things, we can just stop time passing for them. I can enjoy one piece each day. Mmphph...]

*Mmphph*... oh Goddess... Somehow in my mind I can see this Goddess jumping for joy.

[Anyway, offer up this amount next time, please. Be sure not to forget again.]

"As you command." Haa- I'm worn out. That is to say, this disciple of a disappointing Goddess is worn out.

I thought about going to bed immediately but Fer and Sui were looking at me intently.

"Wh- what's with you two?"

"Sui wants to eat some too..." Oh Sui, don't ask me in that sort of a cute voice...

"That's right. Shouldn't we also get a small share?" growled Fer.

"The cakes were an offering to Ninril-sama. They're not really for eating before you go to sleep."

"Uh-, Aruji-" Sui is shivering and trembling. She really wants to eat some cake... Ah, Sui-tan is too cute. I surrender.

"Three pieces only, understand?" One piece each isn't really enough for Fer and Sui, probably.

"Really, Aruji?"

"Ah. But like I said, only three pieces."

"Yeah, yay-!" Sui bounced up and down happily.

"Hey, what about me?"

"You'll get some too, Fer so don't worry."

"Yeah, well."

I search on Net Super with Sui watching over my shoulder to help me choose. I bought a chocolate cake, a strawberry shortcake and a pudding a la mode. A piece each was not enough for those two as I thought but but at least mine was delicious.

Haa- my Contracted beasts are gluttons.

Ch 45 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Ch 45 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Ch 45 -- Sui's Deluxe High-grade Potion

"Sui, will you stop for a moment while I tell you something?" I said as Sui bounced happily around me.

"What is it?" said Sui telepathically as she stopped in front of me.

"Sui, you got a new skill, restorative medicine creation. Can you use it?"

"Uhn? I don't quite understand, but I will try."

Sui made a groaning grunting sound as she concentrated on making restorative medicine.

"Oh I can. Aruji, I can make it!"

"Really?"

"Yeah, watch..."

Sui pushed out a tentacle and a liquid dripped from the end.

"Oh, hang on a moment." I said. I quickly retrieved an empty bottle from my Item Box.

"Please put it in this." I put the plastic bottle close to the tentacle tip. A clear bluish liquid collected in the PET bottle.

"This is all I can make just now, Aruji."

"Oh, I see. Thank you."

The bottle's half full of a liquid that's probably a restorative medicine made by Sui. Is it really a restorative medicine? I sniffed it but it seems to be odourless. I used Appraisal on the bluish liquid in the plastic bottle.

【Sui's Deluxe High-grade Potion】

Eh? What's this...? Sui's medicine is a deluxe high-grade potion? Explain this to me, Sui-chan.

"Sui, this is called a Sui Deluxe High-grade Potion but do you know why?"

"Because it's made by Sui. Also it's a medicine that will cure a lot of pain very quickly."

Is- is that so?

"Can you make other medicines?"

"Well, I can make a medicine that will cure some pain and another medicine that will cure a small amount of pain."

Potions that can cure mid-level pain are middle level, and medicine that cures a bit of pain is a lower-level potion. I wonder what effect each of the upper, intermediate and lower classes have...
"Sui, do you know how effective the medicine is?"

"Ummm, a high-grade medicine cures a lot of pain, a medium medicine cures medium pain and the low-grade medicine heals a little pain."

Obviously it was a mistake to ask Sui. Is there any other way I can check its effectiveness?

And how does Sui make the restorative medicine in the first place? Sui can make acid bullets as well as restorative medicines, that makes Sui absurdly strong.

"I've lived for a long time but it's the first time I've ever seen a Slime produce a restorative medicine." Fer interjected. This is a first for a fellow who's over a thousand years old?

"I'd say Sui is a very special individual." I said.

"There's no doubt she's special, she has a very high intelligence for a Slime after all. That makes her quite unique." Fer's long experience probably means Sui really is a special case.

You can't think of Slimes as small fry if you look at Sui. Whoever decided Slimes were only ever small fry anyway?

Bouncing around, Sui jumped up to my chest saying "Aruji-". I caught her, of course. Sui is cute. Sooo healing-.

"How much Sui Deluxe High-Grade Potion can you make in a day, Sui?" I asked.

"Uh, I don't know." You don't know?

"Well, can you make the same medicine as before until the bottle's full?" I held out the PET bottle which was half-filled with Sui's Deluxe High-grade Potion.

"Uh, I'll try." Sui produced more Sui's Deluxe High-grade Potion and it didn't take long for the bottle to be filled.

"That's it full, Sui. Thank you." I'm all set. I've got healing mushrooms, I've got Sui's Deluxe High-grade Potion, I won't die too easily.

I never thought she'd produce restorative medicine. Sui-sama!

"Hoi, let's get going right now." Fer growled.

"Ah, sorry sorry. Come here Sui-" I put Sui in her bag and climbed up on Fer again.

"Right, we're off."

Ch 44 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Ch 44 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Here's chapter 44.

Ch 44 - Healing Mushroom

"That reminds me, Fer, whereabouts is the Gryphon territory?"

That's right. I had forgotten, what with the fight with the Orthros that there were Gryphons in this forest too.

"The Gryphons territory is a bit further on." Fer replied.

A bit further, then we've got some more time.

"Hey, let's avoid the Gryphon's territory." Gryphons are also dangerous. For one thing, Gryphons can fly since they're feathered creatures. If you know such demons exist then you should avoid them at all costs.

"But why do I need to avoid their territory?" asked Fer. It's the sort of thing only someone like Fer would say. "There's nothing to fear about those guys. Besides, their territory is wider than the Orthrus' turf so we can't avoid going through there."

Wh-, what the-...

"I've said this many times but tell me about these sorts of things sooner, will you?"

"Well you should have asked me about it earlier."

Haa, I give up. We can't avoid it so we'll have to go through the Gryphons territory.

I don't wanna. I hope we don't meet any Gryphons. Hey Mister Gryphon, please don't show yourself.

"Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. You and Sui are always protected by my Barrier and the Gryphons territory is still some way away."

No matter what I say it seems we'll be going through the Gryphons territory regardless. I really don't wanna.

* * * * *

"Nuu, that's curious..." said Fer. I stopped suddenly.

"Eh? What's curious?" I asked apprehensively.

Following the line of Fer's stare, I saw a pale blue mushroom growing at the base of a tree. Looking around there were more mushrooms like that one growing at the base of other trees nearby.

"That, well it's a very rare mushroom, supposedly a healing mushroom. It's been a long time since I saw any."

When you say "healing" does that mean it has an effect like recovery magic or can it be made into a potion? Fer's been around for over a thousand years and he's not seen many of them then it must be a really rare mushroom.

"Just eating raw it is very effective, it even cures deep cuts and fractures in an instant."

Hee, so just eating them works?

"If they work like that then I'll gather some." I got off Fer's back and picked some healing mushrooms.

Then Sui crawled out of her bag. "What smells so good?-"

Do they really smell good?

Sui went over to the healing mushrooms.

"Hey hey, Aruji, these mushrooms look delicious. Can I eat some?"

Fer could eat them without harm but is it really OK to say yes to Sui?

"Fer, is it OK to eat them?"

"Ah, there shouldn't be any sort of a problem as they just have a recovery effect." Fer answered.

"OK, Sui, you can eat them, but not too many." I figure eating them in moderation would prevent something bad happening.

"Yay!" Sui started happily absorbing the healing mushrooms.

"Yeah, I just remembered." added Fer. "The healing mushroom is one of the ingredients of the potion called "Elixir". It seems that a medicine like "Elixir" can cure any disease. People on the verge of dying will get better and it also extends their lifespan."

"So, Elixir-" It seems Elixir is a secret remedy. If these healing mushrooms are one of the ingredients then maybe the other ingredients are difficult to find too. It must be hard to make. You might find it as a rare drop in a treasure chest in a really difficult dungeon, maybe, in a game or a light novel.

Well, it's not likely I'll ever get an Elixir but It's lucky that I found these healing mushrooms here.
I'll take a lot. For me. The way I am I'll likely need them, whatever you think of me.

Fer is a legendary Demon Beast even if he only appears to be a glutton and Sui is a Unique Slime even though she looks like a small-fry. Me, I'm just an ordinary guy. OK, I've learned how to use magic and I've got a bit stronger. While Fer and Sui are doing their best, I have to prepare for emergencies.

While I was carefully picking healing mushrooms, Sui who was absorbing the mushrooms next to me glowed a pale white light.

"Uh, Sui-?!"

"Aruji, Sui's body feels all sparkly."

"Sui, are you all right? Is it painful?"

"It doesn't hurt-"

The pale light infusing Sui's body faded after about a minute.

"Sui, is there anything wrong?"

"Nothing, Sui, feels OK." Sui bounced up and down excitedly.

What just happened? Although she seems OK, I used Appraisal.

【Name】 Sui
【Age】 21
【Types】 Slime
【Level】 17
【Fitness】 367
【Magical Power】 361
【Attack power】 354
【Defense force】 357
【Agility】 363
【Skill】 acid bullet, restorative medicine creation

Sui is already level 17... she's eating foreign-world trash every day so it's going up fast. Hmm? Something's been added to her skills. What is restorative medicine creation...?

"Hey Fell, it says Sui's skills include restorative medicine creation, is that right?" I ask Fer to carry out an Appraisal too.

"Oh, there it is. Perhaps it's because Sui ate a lot of healing mushrooms."

"Huh? Can she acquire new skills that way?"

"It's because Sui is a Slime. A long time ago I saw a Slime that only ate metal which had evolved into a Metal Slime. It acquired the skill of Hardening as it evolved. I think this is the same sort of thing."

So depending on what she eats changes her evolution and lets her gain specific skills? Restorative medicine creation is not a bad skill after all. I mean, I'd rather she gained a skill that was a good thing.

"Well done, Sui!"

"Uh? Sui is a good girl?"

"Yes, yes, Sui is a good girl!"

Sui jumped around me, bouncing happily.

Ch 43 Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Ch 43 Tondemo Skill

Here's my machine-assisted translation of chapter 43 of the Japanese webnovel, "Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi". Roughly translated the title is "Outrageous Skill of a Wandering Cook in a Parallel World" but don't take my word for it. It's getting a manga which you'll find translated on Batoto and elsewhere.

If you're coming to this series cold, it would be better to read the previous chapters translated by others. You can find them here at NovelUpdates (which is probably where you found a link to this blog entry).

Chapter 43 - Fried food joins the popular menu

After Fer's fight with the Orthrus, I got on his back and we ran off again.

When the sun went down we decided to make camp nearby.

"Hey, is this still Orthros territory?" I asked.

"Yeah, we still got a ways to go before we're out of it." Fer said.

There are still Orthros around? Is it OK to just make camp here? I looked around worriedly.

"Don't be afraid, the Orthros won't come around here. They saw who was the strongest in the previous fight." Fer explained.

Well, I must admit...

The Orthros that he defeated was probably the strongest of them all, and Fer had killed him with a single slicing blow.

As Fer says they will probably not come, but I can't be calm while we're still in the Orthros' territory. I'll get Fer to make a really secure Barrier.

"Now that's understood, how about food?" Fer said.

"It's not OK, we're still in Orthrus territory. Make a really secure Barrier."

"Aruji-, Sui is also hungry." Sui said.

"Is Sui's tummy empty? Let's make dinner then."

"Hey, why do you treat me different from Sui?" Fer growled.

Of course I treat her different, she's a lot cuter than you are.

Since Fer was getting grouchy I got ready to make dinner. I checked what was left in the Item Box but a lot of the meat had been used up.

"Fer, how far have we got through the forest?"

"Ummm, we're about half-way."

That means if it's taken about three weeks to get here then it'll take us about the same time to get to the other side of the forest? About three weeks... we've barely got enough supplies. However there's the Net Super so it should be OK, and we can use less meat by putting it on rice bowls.

So maybe I should use some meat I haven't tried before? I've still got that Black Serpent meat. It's a snake though. Since the old guy at the Adventurer's Guild said it was a luxury item I think it's supposed to be delicious but...

I've heard it said that snake meat tastes like chicken but I've never tried it myself. However the orc meat was delicious when I tried that for the first time so maybe the Black Serpent will be the same. Right, I'll cook some Black Serpent. It looks like chicken, a bit anyway.

Everybody likes fried food.

First I'll buy stuff that I've nearly run out of from the Net Super. Soy sauce and sake, and since it's a pain to grate ginger and garlic I'll buy some grated paste in tubes, and wheat flour and potato starch and vegetable oil as well. I've got a frying pan and a cooker but I'll need to buy a pot for deep-frying.

Right, let's get started cooking.

Cut the Black Serpent's meat up into bite-sized pieces and stab them with a fork so that the sauce seeps in. Put soy sauce, sake, grated garlic and ginger in a plastic bag and give it a really good shake. Add the Black Serpent's meat and squeeze it over and over to infuse it with the sauce. Poking the meat with a fork helps but I give it a good ten minutes anyway. Meanwhile I put kitchen paper on a dish.

I get the oil warmed up properly. Right, it's about time.

I covered the Black Serpent's meat with a mixture of flour and starch,
shook off the excess powder and fried it. Yep, it looks like it's nice and crispy, just like fried chicken. Whether it tastes like it...

I try not to think of it as snake, I think to myself, "it's chicken" and try a bite.

*Crunch, chew chew chew...* ..........It tastes delicious, nothing weird.

"Don't hold out. Feed me some of it too."

Fer had been standing motionless, eyes fixed on the food but his patience was exhausted. I scooped out more freshly-fried chick- uh, Black Serpent meat for him.

"Wa-, wait a minute." I said.

"Nnnn, this is delicious. Not enough, give me more."

Hang on, I just started frying.

"Sui wants to eat it too."

Yes yes, just wait a moment. "Give me some time to fry more."

I fried and fried continuously. As I finished each batch Fer and Sui gobbled them down. I fried until I was ready to drop, it seemed endless.

Fer and Sui ate nearly everything, would they leave any for me?

"Hey, leave a little for me will you?"

Eventually after frying and frying, Fer and Sui seemed satisfied.

"Umu, it was delicious. I want to eat this dish again." said Fer.

"Yeah, it was delicious. Sui likes this too. I want to eat it again."

It looked like fried food will be a popular item on the menu from here on.

However, there were only three pieces of fried chick- uh, Black Serpent meat left. I put them between two slices of bread but it was not as nice to eat it that way. Damn it.

Revamp of this blog coming up, a shift from scanlating to translating light novels that catch my attention. All the old stuff I had listed here and the download links to them are gone, sorry but age and decay does that to the Web so I've wiped it clean. I'm still releasing some manga scanlation stuff when I feel like it but you'll typically find it on Batoto and elsewhere.
